On the day we left Sydney, we had to pay $200 bucks to United just to get my surfboard to San Francisco (even though it was lighter and less space filling than regular luggage, may I just point out). Anyways, the flight there was pretty rough. It was an overnight, I slept 3-4 hours out of 13 hours. There was no leg room and no movie screen thing, so that did not improve my already disliking feelings towards United. When we arrived I checked right away that my board was intact without dings, because if that baby was broken, United had better get me another one, other wise there would be another movie on youtube, but instead of guitars, it would be surfboards ( You may not understand this, but if you want to, watch "United Breaks Guitars" on youtube). It was fine, so we caught a taxi to our hotel and then fell asleep, but not for long, because my mom was like, "We need to check out some tourist stuff!" even though we all knew we were all exhausted. Well, I woke up quickly when I found myself hanging on to the pole outside the cable cars going up and down steep hills. It was fun, and at least you are meant to hang on the outside. We were all very hungry, so we went to an italian place and ate pasta and pizza, which was delicious, but I'm missing BBQ! We also stopped at a hotel which my mom had stayed at with some friends of hers on one of her "weekend trips." It was the darn grandest place I have ever seen ever in my life. It was enormous! I don't remember the name, but it was sure royal-looking.
The next day we asked the hotel to store my board and a bag for a month, and it was free, which was a relief, because the storage at the airport was $44 bucks a day. We caught our flight to Mexico City, where we really wanted to meet some of our Mexican students, but we only had 5 hours there, and I have never seen a bigger or brighter city in my life.
