We drove to lake Titicaca right in Puno, where the Uros people live on their reed islands. It's really a strange concept to think about,I mean, they make their islands. This is the process: When the reeds grow, their roots make the earth around them and the reed float like a cork. The people collect these earth/reed bundles and tie them together, and throw on a bunch of dry reeds. Every few years they make a new island cause the old one sinks. When you step on the island, you sink about a foot. They use reeds for everything; food, houses, islands, floor, decorations, and boats.
