After a terrible overnight bus, we arrived in Arequipa and caught a taxi to our hostel. It has a rooftop patio and single beds with a couple alpaca blankets. It's very decent as far as hostels go. On our first day/morning there, we discovered a very civilized coffee shop with awesome banana muffins. We went there every morning in Arequipa, and walked there dodging mototaxis (very annoying horn-honking every second motorbikes with passenger seats attached) tiny yellow chinese-made taxis (That also honk their horns every second) and Volkswagon Bugs.
We walked everywhere, through the very old stone paved streets and past huge old cathedrals everywhere. The buildings are mostly over 100 years old, which was very reassuring, because there have been a ton of big earthquakes here and the buildings have survived fine. It was also nice because there had just been that 8.3 in Chile and we got some tiny aftershocks, but we were all waiting for the big aftershock (It hasn't happened yet). Our hostel was on the party store street, which means that if you plan a party, you go there to get your supplies. We nicknamed it Piñata Lane.
