Five years ago 3 families with young kids, from 3 different countries, packed up their caravans and travelled north along the east coast of Australia seeking sun, sand, surf, and memories. They met up at different points along their journey and friendships were formed. These friendships spanned time and distance and for that we feel so grateful.
Who would have thought that 5 years later, we would all meet up on the west coast of Australia to re-connect and discover a different part of this beautiful country. The Marsh family has opened their doors to us, and to our friends - the Fankhauser family from Switzerland and are showing us their beautiful city in a most generous and hospitable style. It is a fabulous reminder that while we live in different parts of the world, we all strive for a healthy and happy existence for ourselves and our kids, that we value connections with others and exploring our world. How lucky for us that we could all come together for this unforgettable time at this point in our lives.
Our New Year's is usually spent with our good friends, the Roberts family, in the snow at Mt. Washington. This year we spent a fabulous morning at the beach - and under John's patient guidance Lia has joyfully picked up surfing again. Kali is most happy playing in the waves and the sand with her mates Bella and Eve. We took a beautiful stroll around King's Park in Perth - with stunning flora and views of the city. The evening was rounded out enjoying fish 'n chips in the park and a rousing game of cricket - of which I'm sure the Canadians and Swiss were just making up their own rules! We managed to stay up to ring in the New Year by watching the fireworks in Sydney (via the TV!). Happy New Year all - may 2014 bring good health and much happiness. Cheers!
