This morning I got ready to go on a snorkelling tour called Safari Blue. When we got onto the dhow {a Zanzibarian boat} the captain took us to a coral reef area near a sand bar. The water here, in the Indian Ocean, is very clear and warm - we didn't need any wetsuits. There was lots of sea urchins and lots of different types of colourful fish. I saw some Zebra Fish, Trumpet Fish, Sea Cucumbers, and Moorish Idols (like Gill from Finding Nemo). I also saw fish that looked like Dori, called Powder Blue Surgeonfish, and a Blue-barred Parrotfish, as well as Angelfish. While we were swimming over to the sand bar I saw a Lion fish. I think it was angry and hungry because all of it's flippers were waving around and there were no other fish around it. While we were on the boat heading to another snorkelling place, we drank from coconuts and ate the meat. The coconut that I had the meat was all squishy. I did not care for it. After our second snorkelling period we spotted 4 dolphins, and one was a baby. They were humpback dolphins. They swam around our boat for a long time. After we said good-bye to the dolphins we headed for a little island for lunch. They made us a feast of Kingfish (a local fish), squid, chicken, rice and crayfish (african name for lobster). Dessert was huge too. We had lots of fresh fruit which is very common in Zanzibar. We had 2 types of mango, mini bananas, pineapple, watermelon, passion fruit, and grapefruit. The grapefruit was different from ours. It was almost as big as a watermelon, and it was green on the outside but the taste was the same. The grapefruit was my favourite.
In the evening Lia and I brought out our soccer ball to play with the neighbourhood kids. At first only one little boy was playing with us. Then a few more boys came over to play. After a while 2 girls came over to play which never happens. The boys and the girls never play together, especially soccer. It was fun because everybody had different skills and tricks to show.
